Recovery from





Center for HEART was established in 2013. 

Our specialized counselors deal with various traumas, however, we especially focus on sexual traumas such as rape, domestic violence, male survivors, child sexual assault and sexual minority. 

We also offer supervision and training for Counselors or family member (included but not limited) of survivors with these traumas.

 Our Counseling 

We offer In-person counseling and supervision.

Place :

  Shinjuku-ku or Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
       * We will inform you the detail when you reserve an appointment.

  10,000 yen/hour (EMDR:15,000yen/90mins)
      * The first intake will be one-time fee of 8,000 yen/hour.
Payment methods:

  1) Cash : Payment is due at end of appointment.

  2) Bank Transfer : We will tell you the transfer NO. when your reservation is completed.
Cancellation Policy:  

Notification given less than 24 hours prior to an appointment time will result 50% charge of the reserved service. Failure to show up for your appointment will result in a 100% charge of the reserved service.

Booking process:

As soon as we receive your reservation, we will contact you about your counseling schedule within a week. 

  • If you don't get E-mail from us in a week, it could be a system error, so we appreciate you try to contact us again.
  • We recommend you to give us the preferred dates that are a week or more from now. Please note that it usually takes a few days to process and finalize a reservation.
  • Your information can only be used by authorized personnel at our center.

Tamami Kumagai (Director, Counselor)


After graduating from University in Japan, she received a M.A. in Counseling Psychology in the United States. She, as a counselor,  has various experience supporting survivors of rape, domestic Violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and child abuse. She also offer advocate/counselor training and supervisions.

Mayumi Kato (Counselor)

Ms. Kato is a Certified Clinical Psychologist in Japan. Formerly she worked for TELL-Counseling in Tokyo, serving English-speaking clients (both adults and couples) for eight years. She has also provided marriage counseling.  She joined HEART Counseling Center to focus on trauma treatment. Areas of special training (completed and ongoing) cover family/marital therapy, and PTSD treatment protocols which include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Brain Spotting; Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She takes an integrated approach based on the client’s conditions and needs.  Ms. Kato has also worked with LGBT couple clients.

  Traumatic events such as motor vehicle  and workplace accidents, and physical assauts/ Traumatic abuse (i.e., childhood, sexual, and spousal)/ Relationship issues for individuals and couples (e.g. affairs, intercultural marriages, spouses with developmental disorders, etc.) / Vicarious trauma ("Compassion Fatigue", Support for those in helping professions) / Trauma  and parenting

Tomoko Kabeya (Assistant)


She received an M.A. in Counseling and spent 10+years working for a graduate school as the International Student Coordinator as well as a counselor in the U.S.
